At the tender age of five, I embarked on a journey into the captivating world of folklorico dance. This early exposure not only fostered a deep appreciation for cultural traditions but also instilled in me a profound sense of rhythm and movement. Immersing myself in the vibrant costumes and intricate steps, I was captivated by the rich history and stories conveyed through each performance. This formative experience laid the groundwork for my continued passion for the arts, shaping my identity and enriching my understanding of cultural heritage.
During my childhood, I had the privilege of studying folklorico dance at Ballet Folklorico Sarita in Windsor, California. This formative experience instilled in me a profound appreciation for cultural heritage and the expressive power of dance. Under the guidance of skilled instructors, I learned the intricate movements and vibrant rhythms characteristic of folklorico, which not only fostered my artistic abilities but also deepened my connection to my roots. The lessons I gleaned from this esteemed institution continue to influence my understanding of tradition and community today.
Throughout the years, my journey in learning folklorico has been profoundly enriched by participation in the Danzantes Unidos workshops in Fresno, CA. My repertoire and knowledge has also increased through the guidance of esteemed instructors such as Angie Glez and Obdulia Espinoza Beltran. Their expertise and dedication have not only imparted technical skills but also fostered a deep appreciation for the cultural significance of this dance form. The collaborative environment of the workshops has allowed me to connect with fellow learners, enhancing my understanding and passion for folklorico. This experience has been instrumental in shaping my commitment to preserving and celebrating our rich cultural heritage.
